Civil servants at the Bayelsa State Civil Secretariat in Yenagoa were temporarily denied access to their offices on Tuesday morning after arriving late to work.

The Secretariat gate was shut for hours as part of efforts to enforce punctuality and discipline in the civil service.

Access was later restored after Prof. Nimibofa Ayawei, the Secretary to the Bayelsa State Government, Hon. Perekiye Buruboyefe, the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, and Dr. Wisdom Ebiye Sawyer, the Head of the Bayelsa State Civil Service addressed the affected workers.

The officials warned that habitual lateness reduces productivity and affects service delivery, stressing that punctuality must be strictly observed going forward.

The action sparked mixed reactions among workers, but authorities insisted the measure was necessary to restore discipline and improve efficiency in the civil service.
