The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Bayelsa State has called on eligible voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, and actively participate in the 2027 general elections.
Mr. Utong Christian, the Head of Department, Voter Education and Publicity made the call on Let’s Talk Nigeria, Golden 97.5 FM’s morning programme. He said voter registration alone does not guarantee participation, noting that many citizens register but fail to collect their cards, while others collect but fail to vote.
Mr. Christian said INEC has put measures in place to ensure seamless collection of PVCs and called on citizens to take advantage of the window to collect their cards ahead of the deadline.
On his part, Engr. Lawrence Akan, the Head of Department, ICT and Voter Register, INEC Bayelsa State, highlighted the recently released list of eligible candidates for the 2027 elections, urging the electorate to familiarize themselves with the candidates and make informed choices at the polls.
Responding to a caller who alleged that PVCs were being distributed along party lines in the Local Government Area’s, the officials frowned at the practice and promised to take decisive action.
Both officials reassured Bayelsans of INEC’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and conducting credible elections.
