As the lingering power supply challenges continue to generate reactions, some residents of Edepie community in Yenagoa have called on the Bayelsa State Government to expedite work on the gas turbine project to address the persistent electricity problem in the state.
Speaking with correspondent, the residents decried the impact of irregular power supply on their businesses, homes and the rising cost of fueling generators.
Mr. Samuel Epu, Chairman of the Light Committee, Edepie School Road, Yenagoa, lamented that residents are being billed for electricity not consumed. He said he spends heavily on fuel to pump water and preserve food items to prevent spoilage, urging the government to take decisive action to improve power supply.
Another resident appealed to the government to fast-track the turbine project to provide an alternative source of electricity alongside that supplied by the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company.
Also speaking, Mr. Stephen Kasie, a business owner in the area, expressed concern over the adverse effect of inadequate electricity on commercial activities and appealed to the government to accelerate the turbine project for the benefit of residents and businesses.
