The Bayelsa State Police Command have arrested five suspects in connection with the death of one Samuel Ofiri, aged 38, from Otuoke Community.
Those arrested are, Stanley Inemugha, aged-21; Ipagaro Memidin, aged-21; Kingsley Taribo, aged-25; Boye Easter, aged-22, all from Otakeme Community, and Preye Timbiri, aged 40, of Otuoke Community, in Ogbia Local Government Area.
A statement by Mr. Musa Mohammed, spokesperson of the command on Tuesday explained that on February 22nd, 2026, at about 3:30 pm, operatives of Kolo Divisional Headquarters responded to a distress call at Kakatar Road, Otuoke, where they found a lifeless male body. The corpse was recovered and deposited at the Federal Medical Center, Otuoke.
The statement said preliminary investigation reveals that the deceased was allegedly accused of raping a lady and was taken to an apartment on Kakatar Road, Otuoke, where he was tortured by the suspects, leading to his death.
According to the statement said the suspects are currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department and will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.
The statement adds that the Commissioner of Police has warned members of the public against jungle justice and other forms of mob action, and urged that suspicious activities be reported to the nearest police station or via 0703-457-8208 or 091-673-22691.
