Men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA were reportedly prevented by residents of Obunagha Community in Gbarain Clan, Yenagoa Local Government Area from carrying out an arrest on Saturday.
An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told our correspondent that the operatives had come to arrest a young man suspected to be involved in internet fraud. He alleged that no drugs were found on the suspect at the time of the operation.
The source claimed that tension escalated when some officers reportedly fired shots at onlookers, prompting angry reactions from residents who subsequently intervened.
The eyewitness called on the government to investigate the agency’s operational procedures and urged the NDLEA to focus on tackling drug-related offences rather than harassing innocent citizens.
He further noted that not every young person living comfortably is involved in internet fraud, stressing that many youths are legitimately engaged as content creators and programmers.
Meanwhile, a viral video circulating on social media captures a woman in distress as officers alleged to be NDLEA operatives stormed her apartment. The footage shows an NDLEA officer damaging the apartment’s protector and window glass, during the incident.
