The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says more than 4.44 million Nigerians have registered online in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), with another 509,929 completing their registration physically.
Mr. Sam Olumekun, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Abuja. He said the figures were recorded within four weeks of the exercise, which began on August 18.
According to him, 51.83 percent of those who registered online are female, while 48.17 percent are male. Young people between the ages of 18 and 34 make up the majority with 2.9 million registrants, and more than one million students have also signed up.
Of the physical registrations recorded as of September 12, about 55 percent were female and 45 percent male, with young people again dominating at more than 74 percent.
Olumekun said the detailed breakdown of registrations by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability status has been uploaded to INEC’s website.
He also announced that online pre-registration in the Federal Capital Territory ended on Monday, September 15, while physical registration will continue at designated centres before moving to all 62 wards from September 29 to October 8.
