Governor Douye Diri has commissioned a new Pressure Swing Adsorption, PSA, plant at the General Hospital, Sagbama, on Friday to boost emergency healthcare delivery in Bayelsa State.

The oxygen plant, built in partnership with the Global Fund, is aimed at making oxygen closer, reliable, and affordable for patients.

Represented at the event by Prof. Nimibofa Ayawei, the Secretary to the State Government, Governor Diri described the event as historic and urged the community to protect the facility from vandalism.

In his remark, Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe, the Commissioner for Health said the oxygen plant will save lives by providing critical support during emergencies like childbirth complications, accidents, and childhood pneumonia.

He lauded Governor Diri for his unwavering support in strengthening healthcare and noted that Bayelsa now has oxygen plants across its three senatorial districts, located at the General Hospital Sagbama, Brass and FMC Yenagoa.

Prof. Brisibe thanked the Federal Ministry of Health, National Agency for Control of AIDs, NACA, and the Global Fund for their support and reaffirmed government’s commitment to building a stronger health system under the Assured Prosperity Agenda.

In their separate goodwill messages, Mr. Johnpaul Ororo, Representative of the Oxygen Desk at the Federal Ministry of Health; Mrs. Thelma Thomas, Communication and Protocol Officer of NACA; and Global Fund as well as Hon. Godbless Onyinke, Chairman of the House Committee on Health in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, emphasized the importance of the oxygen plant and the need for collective effort to sustain it.

On his part, His Royal Majesty, Boluyi Sufadoh, the Pere of Kubowei Kingdom, thanked the State Government and its partners for providing the oxygen plant and assured that the facility would be protected against vandalism.
