Three persons have reportedly been killed by suspected Greenlander cultists in Igbogene community, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. Several others were also injured.
The incident, which is believed to be a reprisal attack, occurred on Sunday—just days after a 30-year-old man identified as Ebi from Amassoma community was allegedly beheaded by a rival cult group.
A resident of the area, who spoke to correspondent, said the attack took place during a burial ceremony. According to her, the assailants arrived in a vehicle and opened fire on the victims.
The resident who wants to remain anonymous for security reason disclosed that one of the deceased was a native of Igbogene and reportedly a known cult member, while the other victims were from Okordia Clan and another Ijaw community. Take a listen.
The source added that their corpses were evacuated by the police. It was also gathered that one of the victims, said to be from Akumoni community in Okordia clan, has since been taken to his hometown for burial.
Meanwhile, when contacted as of the time of filing this report, Mr. Musa Muhammed, the spokesperson of the Bayelsa State Police Command, told our correspondent that he would make further inquiries and get back to us.
