As the world observed the International Day of Science, Technology and Innovation for the South on September 16, stakeholders have called for greater commitment to science and innovation as engines of growth and development.
Mr. Kelvin Chike, a student of Federal University Otuoke, Bayelsa state told our correspondent that science is about asking questions, observing, and experimenting, while innovation applies that knowledge to create solutions that improve daily life.
He noted that advancements in science and technology have led to better healthcare, job creation, and global opportunities in fields like software development and engineering.
Chike explained that hospitals depend on science for pregnancy scans, disease diagnosis, and other critical services, stressing that no society can progress without investment in science and technology.
On his part, Engineer Victor Friday added that limited access to capital remains a major obstacle for innovators, as many investors prefer low-risk ventures rather than supporting ideas from concept to market.
The International Day of Science, Technology and Innovation for the South is marked annually on September 16 to highlight the role of scientific progress in driving sustainable development.
