SAGBAMA YOUTHS PROTEST AS LEGISLATIVE ARM MOVES TO IMPEACH COUNCIL CHAIRPERSON

Youths of Sagbama Local Government Area in Bayelsa State, under the aegis of the SALGA Youth Vanguard, have protested against an alleged impeachment process involving Hon. Mrs. Alice Tangi Allen, the council’s chairperson, reportedly initiated by the council’s legislative arm.

The youths staged a peaceful demonstration from Sagbama Motor Park to the Local Government Council Secretariat, carrying placards with various inscriptions. They called for an immediate halt to the alleged impeachment process, describing it as malicious and against the interests of the people they represent.

Speaking during the protest, Comrade Fidelis Eke, the Coordinator of the SALGA Youth Vanguard, called on the three Bayelsa State House of Assembly members from Sagbama LGA and other political leaders in the area to intervene, stressing that Hon. Allen has done nothing to warrant the truncation of her tenure in office.

Also speaking, Mr. Stanley Agadagidi from Okumbiri Town and High Chief Moses Ekisah of Kubowei Kingdom condemned the alleged impeachment move. They lamented that since the creation of Bayelsa State, no chairman from Sagbama Constituency Two has completed a full tenure, urging Governor Douye Diri to intervene and help Hon. Alice Tangi Allen break the jinx so she can continue her people-oriented policies and programmes in the Local Government Area.

On their part, Mrs. Izonere Akadbisa from Ward 10 and Madam Abiodun Okumo expressed displeasure over the alleged impeachment move. They described Hon. Alice Tangi Allen, the first female LGA chairperson in the area, as impactful to both the elderly and youths, and urged the Sagbama Legislative Assembly to reconsider its position. They also called for the intervention of Governor Douye Diri and Dr. Peter Akpe, his deputy.

The protesting youths, drawn from all constituencies across the LGA, carried placards with inscriptions including: “Sagbama Youths Love Hon. Alice,” “We Say No to Political Persecution,” “Since 1999 the Creek Has Never Completed a Tenure,” “Sagbama Youths Say No to Oppression and Intimidation,” “Leave Our Chairperson Alone, Sagbama Councillors,” and “No to One-Party Rule in Sagbama LGA,” among others.
