The Bayelsa State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a suspected Internet fraudster after the body of an unidentified young girl was found in a hotel in Igbogene, Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.
The incident, which happened on Saturday, has raised concerns in the community.
Sources gathered that the deceased lodged in the hotel with the fleeing young man suspected to be an Internet fraudster and a few minutes after the pair lodged in the hotel, the suspect left the deceased behind.
The hotel manager discovered the lifeless body of the girl and reported the incident at the Igbogene Divisional Police Headquarters.
Mr. Musa Muhammad, the Police Public Relations Officer in the Bayelsa State Police Command, confirmed the incident to newsmen, saying an investigation is ongoing to ensure the culprits are apprehended.
Meanwhile, authorities of the Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed the identity of the female corpse found in a hotel along Igbogene community in Yenagoa Local Government area of the state to be that of a commercial sex worker.
According to the Police, the deceased corpse member was a 22 years old commercial sex worker domicile at the “Ashawo Quarters” along Okarki community, a neighboring town to Bayelsa State.
The confirmation of the identity of the corpse also put to rest the claims that the deceased was a member of the National Youths Service Corpse, NYSC.
Mr. Musa Mohammed, the Police Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, confirmed to newsmen yesterday that the incident, which occurred on Wednesday, has triggered a forensic investigation to unravel the identity of the suspected killers.
Mr. Musa Mohammed, who confirmed that the incident occurred on Saturday, revealed that the deceased lodged in the hotel with the fleeing young man suspected to be an Internet fraudster popularly known as Yahoo boy.
According to him, the deceased is identified as Miss Francisca Otu, 22 years old and an Indigene of Omubo community in Akwa Ibom State.
The police spokesman said Ms. Rachael Adaora, a receptionist at the Favour Home Guest House, called the police to inform them that the body of the deceased was found naked and lifeless in one of the rooms.
And the DPO led a team of policemen from Igbogene Police Division to the scene and evacuated the corpse.
