Addressing newsmen, the Chairman of the Branch, Barr. Somina Johnbull, expressed gratitude to key stakeholders whose support has been instrumental to the success of the NBA Yenagoa Branch.
He gave special thanks to the Keynote Speaker for the Plenary Session, His Excellency Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, former Vice President of Nigeria, for graciously accepting the invitation to lead the discourse.
Also commended were the Governor Douye Diri, and his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, for their consistent partnership. The Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, and the Chief Judge of Bayelsa State, Hon. Justice Matilda Ayemieye, were recognized for their unwavering support and commitment to the Branch.
The Chairman also acknowledged the Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Biriyai Dambo, SAN, and praised the Nigerian Content Development Monitoring Board (NCDMB) for providing substantial support and the venue for the Law Week’s Plenary Session.
With the theme “Setting the Pace: Law, Leadership and Transformational Development,” He said this year’s Law Week seeks to spotlight the critical role of the legal profession in promoting governance, development, and justice. High-level speakers at the Plenary Session include Hon. Justice Peter Affen of the Court of Appeal, Professor Nimibofa Ayawei, and other distinguished personalities who will discuss leadership models that drive national development.
The Association chairman noted that highlight of the week will be the grand Law Dinner on Saturday, May 17, at the Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha Memorial Banquet Hall, and a charitable outreach to an orphanage for children with special needs as part of the association’s social responsibility.
Barr. Johnbull assured participants of a first-class experience, reiterating the Branch’s commitment to excellence, justice, and community impact.
Also speaking, Barr. Iniruo Wills, Chairman of the Planning Committee, emphasized the significance of the Plenary Session, scheduled to hold at the NCDMB Conference Hall on Friday, May 16.
He noted that the theme of the Law Week was deliberately and thoughtfully crafted to achieve two key objectives: highlighting the role of law both within the courtroom and in broader society, and exploring how legal frameworks can drive socio-economic development.
