Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has called for calm following the death of Patrick Peresuode, assuring the Amassoma community and youths across the state that the government is taking steps to address the matter.
The governor made the appeal while speaking at the 181st State Executive Council meeting held at Government House in Yenagoa. He said the state government was fully aware of the incident and would ensure that justice is served in line with the law.
Governor Diri urged residents of Amassoma and other stakeholders to remain peaceful and support the ongoing process by providing useful information and cooperating with investigators. He stressed that the government would not shy away from its responsibility to ensure that anyone found culpable is held accountable.
According to him, relevant authorities, including the Attorney General of the state, have been briefed and are already working to ensure a speedy and transparent handling of the case, with the aim of achieving justice for all parties involved.
In the same meeting, the governor expressed appreciation to government officials and residents of the state for their cooperation during the burial of the late Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, in Ofoni. He also condoled with the families of two Bayelsa indigenes who lost their lives in a fatal road accident while travelling to attend the burial.
