The Bayelsa Chapter of the Federal Government Girls’ College, Abuloma Old Girls Association, FGGCAOGA has stated that the school has made significant contributions to society over the past 50 years by nurturing women who are adding value across various sectors.
Dr. Mrs. Sawyer Ebiye Pauline, Chairperson of the association’s Bayelsa Chapter, made this known during a Fundraising Dinner and Award Night held at the Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall, Government House, Yenagoa, as part of activities marking FGGC Abuloma’s 50th anniversary on Friday night.
Dr. Pauline who reeled out the achievements also outlined projects the Bayelsa Chapter intends to undertake at their alma mater including building of two digital classroom, planting of 50 fundamental and economic trees as well as distribution of 5,000 thousand reusable sanitary pads.
She urged young girls to remain focused, hardworking, discipline and make their decisions to count.
Hon. Chief Ayibanengiyefa Egba, Chairman of the occasion and member representing Yenagoa Constituency 1 at the Bayelsa State House of Assembly and Barr. Itoro Clement-Isong, National President of FGGCA OGA, commended the Bayelsa Chapter for its commitment to giving back to society and upholding the association’s legacy.
In her keynote address, Barr. Mrs. Biobelemoye Charles-Onyema, Patron of FGGCA-OGA Bayelsa and Head of Civil Service, Bayelsa State, spoke on the theme “Celebrating Nigeria’s Rich Cultural Diversity, urging Nigerians to embrace their diversity as a source of national strength.
The well attended event also featured a captivating performance by the award-winning dance troupe from the Bayelsa State Council for Arts and Culture as well as award presentation to various individuals.
The association also held a sensitization program for 210 students from 21 selected secondary schools in the morning session, to address the dangers of drug abuse and menstrual period poverty.
Participants received reusable sanitary pads and other hygiene products.
