As the world marked the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer on September 16, environmental experts in Bayelsa state have called for renewed global efforts to safeguard the earth’s natural shield.

Speaking with our correspondent, scientist Faith Ifugu described the ozone layer as vital to life, noting that it protects both humans and the environment from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays.

Environmental advocate Bina Isaiah also stressed the need for sustained commitment, warning that setbacks in global action could erode progress already made. She urged industries to cut down on ozone-depleting emissions and adopt safer technologies.

The International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer is observed annually to remind the world of the collective responsibility to protect the atmosphere for current and future generations.
