As the world marks this year’s World Mother Earth Day on April 22, Comrade Alagoa Morris, an environmental right activist has called for greater commitment to sustainable living, reduced chemical pollution, and the adoption of renewable energy, particularly solar power.

In an interview with our correspondent in Yenagoa, Comrade Morris emphasized the need for collective responsibility in protecting the planet and urged Nigerians to adopt eco-friendly habits, such as responsible waste disposal.

He highlighted the damaging effects of chemical use in agriculture, industrial pollution, and warfare, stressing that these practices threaten global sustainability.

Speaking on the theme for this year’s Mother Earth- “Our Power, Our Planet”, he urged Nigerians to embrace solar energy to reduce carbon pollution.

Recalling the First United Nations Convention on River Deltas held in Bangkok, Thailand, last Month, he revealed that Bayelsa State Government played a key role in advocating Delta preservation, adding that a communiqué is currently being worked on for UN action to address the environmental issues raised during the Convention.

Comrade Morris, who is also the Technical Assistant to the Governor of Bayelsa State on Environment, emphasized that International Days should not just be an annual observance but an opportunity for stakeholders to convene, exchange ideas, and take concrete steps toward advancing society.
