The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Bayelsa State Council, has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a strong relationship with the Judiciary, following a courtesy visit to Hon. Justice Matilda Abrakasa Ayemieye, the State Chief Judge.
The visit, led by Comrade Tonye Yemoleigha, Chairman of the NUJ Bayelsa State Council, was aimed at exploring mutual areas of partnership and cooperation between the Judiciary and the media.
According to Comrade Yemoleigha, the visit had “fruitful and promising outcomes, adding that it paved the way for enhanced collaboration and more accurate reporting on the state’s justice system.
Comrade Yemoleigha explained that the partnership between the judiciary and the media is crucial in promoting transparency, accountability, and justice in Bayelsa State.
He added that by working together, both institutions can ensure that the public is well-informed about the administration of justice and that the rights of citizens are protected.
He commended the Chief Judge for doing a good job in state judiciary, hoping that with the support of the executive arm of government more results would be achieved.
Responding Hon. Justice Matilda Abrakasa Ayemieye, the State Chief Judge, who congratulated the new NUJ executives on their election, said the Bayelsa State judiciary is open to journalist.
Justice Abrakasa Ayemieye, who says the judiciary is open for collaboration, informed that the judiciary has a media department which can provide journalist with the needed information and court judgements which she described as public documents to enable them carry out their reportage effectively.
