Imam Abusufyan Uche, the Chairman of the League of Imams in Bayelsa State, has urged Muslims in the state to refrain from acts that could invalidate their fasting as the holy month of Ramadan continues.

Speaking with newsmen, Imam Uche encouraged Muslims to use the period for deeper study of the
Qur’an, increased prayers, seeking forgiveness, and showing love and support to others in order to receive rewards from Allah.

He also prayed for the protection of Governor Douye Diri, who he said has been gracious to them, Christians, and adherents of other faiths, and cautioned political appointees against actions capable of causing disunity within the Muslim community in the state.

Similarly, Alhaji Yakubu Otobo, the Vice President-General of the Bayelsa State Council for Islamic Affairs, called on the Federal Government to engage Imams and Mallams in prayers for the peace and progress of the nation. He added that he would continue to pray for good leadership in the state even beyond the tenure of the current governor.

Also speaking, Alhaji Mohammed Eretaghen, the Chairman of the Muslim Youth Council of Nigeria, Bayelsa State Chapter and Alhaji Isirk Adeyeke, the Vice President of the Yoruba Community, described fasting as compulsory for Muslims and pledged to use the period to extend support to others.

Ramadan is the month in which the Qur’an was revealed to Prophet Muhammad and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a period of reflection, devotion, and charity.
