Governor Douye Diri says his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to the All Progressives Congress, APC was based on personal conviction and the interest of the state.
Governor Diri, who resigned from the PDP on October 15, 2025 and formally joined the APC on November 3, 2025, spoke on Monday night at the January Praise Night held at Government House, Yenagoa.
The Governor said decisions in politics should be guided by conviction, consultation, and prayer, urging politicians not to be slaves to individuals or personal interests.
He also assured Bayelsans that his administration remains focused on development, expressing optimism over the completion of the Angiama bridge and progress on the Nembe–Brass road project.
On power supply, he said the state’s acquisition of 60-megawatt gas turbines would help create an enabling environment for economic growth.
The governor appreciated Bayelsans, the clergy, and security agencies for their support during the burial of his late deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, adding that there was no rift between them before his defection.
In a sermon, Apostle David Zilly-Aggrey of the Royal House of Grace International Church commended the state government for sustaining the monthly praise night and prayed for the Prosperity Government to finish strong.
