The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has begun an investigation into the killing of Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a news anchor and producer with Arise Television, who was shot dead during a robbery at her home in Katampe, Abuja.
Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh, in a statement on Monday, described the attack as cruel and senseless, adding that Commissioner of Police Ajao Adewale has ordered a discreet probe and deployed tactical teams to track down the perpetrators.
Maduagwu, popularly known as Sommie, was 29 years old and also a trained lawyer. She was killed in the early hours of Monday during the attack at her residence.
Her employer, Arise Television, in a separate statement signed by Hadiza Usman-Ajayi, confirmed the incident and expressed shock at her death. The management described her as a vibrant professional who connected deeply with viewers and a supportive colleague whose legacy would endure.
The police command extended condolences to her family, colleagues, and friends, pledging to ensure justice is served while urging residents to support investigations with useful information.
