HEALTH EXPERT URGES EARLY MEDICAL HELP FOR INFERTILITY

Young couples in Nigeria have continued to face tremendous emotional pressure over infertility, a subject often surrounded by silence, shame and blame.

For many, having biological children is seen as an important part of marriage. But when conception is delayed, couples report being confronted with intrusive questions from family members, friends, religious communities and strangers, alongside emotional strain, social stigma and financial challenges.

Speaking On Golden 97.5 FM’s Let’s Talk Nigeria, Dr. Ayebatari Agiri, fertility expert stressed that infertility is not simply a woman’s problem, noting that both men and women can experience fertility challenges which require understanding, medical evaluation, patience and mutual support.

She also highlighted low sperm count, fibroids, blockage of the fallopian tubes, infections and ovulation disorders as factors that can hinder reproduction.

Dr. Agiri advised couples to protect their relationship while seeking appropriate medical help, to consult fertility specialists early, and called on families and society to offer support rather than add pressure.

She also pointed to available options for couples, including assisted reproductive technologies and other paths to parenthood.
